J&K govt announces 8% increase in dearness allowance

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday announced an 8 percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees, pensioners and family pensioners effective from January 1 this year.

"The cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accorded the sanction to enhance of an instalment of DA for state government employees, state pensioners and family pensioners from 72 percent to 80 percent from January 1, 2013," an official spokesperson said here.

The DA arrears with effect from January to April would be paid in cash to the employees in May, the spokesman said. He said the cabinet also accorded forest clearance for the use of certain stretches of forest land in various forest divisions for undertaking several development projects.

"The projects cleared included construction of university campuses at Wuyan, Kupwara and Bagla Samba, Parnai Hydro Electric Project, Railway Tunnel T-I of Udhampur-Katra section, Morh Tunnel from Gagangeer to Shitkari on Srinagar-Leh National Highway and several roads," he said.
